Services:
*As part of the Statewide delivery system of special education services, the
Michigan Department of Education operates a residential facility for hearing
impaired students whose parents are residents of the State. Referrals of students
should be made by local school districts through the appropriate intermediate
school districts. Referrals should be based upon the lack of an appropriate
local program to meet students needs. Each referral is considered on an individual
basis and is referenced to the school's programming and the student's need for
residential education. There is no charge to parents for educational or residential
services.
* Educational offerings range from required academics subjects through career
educational programming. Additionally, there is concentration at all levels
upon development of communication skills using a total communication approach
to instruction and student development. Particular attention is paid to development
of normal language patterns and cognitive development as well as speech and
speech reading. Training to use residual hearing with appropriate amplification
is also stressed.
