*Constructs and maintains roadside rest areas and travel information centers.

*Types of permits issued by the Department of State Highways and Transportation are:
driveway permits, billboard permits, transport permits for overweight, overnights, or overloads.
Maintain and fabricates 25,000 official highway signs in this district
*Maintain overhead signals
*Responsible for all modes of transportation including rail, air, water, and public bus, for Eastern half of the Upper Peninsula; planning, constructing, and financing.
